To Nereus and to Doris … there were born in the barren sea daughters greatly beautiful even among goddesses: Ploto and Eukrante and Amphitrite and Sao, Eudora and Thetis, and Galene and Glauke … These were the daughters born to irreproachable Nereus, fifty in all. - Hesiod, Theogony 240–264

This was a quick side project where I wanted to see what would happen if I pushed some abstract underwater scenes in Maya. I was mostly experimenting with light shafts, particle systems, and flowing forms, but along the way the imagery started to remind me loosely of Nereids — the sea nymphs from Greek myth. The connection isn’t literal at all; it’s more like a distant echo, a mood. The project became a way to test atmosphere and motion in a loose, improvisational way, using myth as a soft backdrop while really just playing around with the tools.
