sillage n. (French, lit. “wake”)
(perfumery) The trail left in the air by a body in motion — most often the lingering scent that remains after someone has passed. More broadly, a sensory trace: unseen but perceptible; presence made visible through absence.
wake n. (nautical)
The visible disturbance left on the surface of water after a vessel has passed. A fleeting imprint of motion — rhythm traced in liquid, presence marked by displacement.
This series of cast resincrete tiles is dyed with French ochre pigment at a 5% concentration, producing a muted, earthy tone that anchors their fluid geometry. The surface patterning is inspired by the dual notions of sillage — the sensory trail left in the air by a body in motion — and the wake of a vessel, the visible trace etched across water. Each tile becomes a fragment of movement held in suspension: a rhythm frozen mid-flow, presence articulated through absence. Installed in sequence, the tiles generate a shifting field of waves and echoes, a quiet topography that speaks to the ephemeral imprints left behind by bodies in motion.
