In the space of the art hub Kula in Cetinjska 15, from Thursday May the 12th to Sunday May the 29th, as part of the first exhibition season, we present the project “Fairy Tale” of the Voždovac Gallery.

The project is inspired by the tower as an architectural typology which in the context of Belgrade often leads to disagreements and debates (City tower, ie skyscraper, whether it is New Belgrade, new bridge or Belgrade on the water, often leads to conflicts of opinion in public). One possible answer to the question why it is like this is the dominant, phallic, ie masculine shape of the tower, which is to some extent threatening in relation to the rest of the city’s fabric.

The motif of tower often appears in fairy tales as a representation of something that is impossible to achieve: at the top of the tower sleeps Goldilocks who was captured by her evil mother, and the prince tries to reach her and succeeds only when Goldilocks throws his long hair at him. In Little Briar Rose, it is impossible to reach the tower because of the thorns, and in order to get to the Cottage neither in heaven nor on earth, the princes must throw a bow and arrow in order to climb.
